About HawaiiMedicare.org

HawaiiMedicare.org is an educational resource built to be the most comprehensive Medicare guide for Hawaii residents on the internet.

Our mission

In Hawaii, important news still travels through what locals call the coconut wireless — friend to friend, neighbor to neighbor, ohana to ohana. We built this site to support that tradition. Our goal is to give Hawaii kupuna and the family members helping them clear, accurate Medicare information they can read, understand, and pass along.

HawaiiMedicare.org exists to help Hawaii kupuna and their families understand Medicare. The Medicare program is complex everywhere, but Hawaii's geography, multilingual population, multigenerational households, federal workforce, and large military and veteran communities create unique considerations that generic Medicare resources rarely address.

We've built this site to fill that gap — with state-specific content covering Med-QUEST, Sage PLUS SHIP, Kupuna Care, the Native Hawaiian Health Care Systems, inter-island healthcare travel, multilingual resources, military and federal retiree coordination, and the cultural realities of caring for kupuna in Hawaii.

What we are — and what we're not

We are: An independent, privately-operated educational resource. Our content is researched from official sources — CMS, the Hawaii Department of Human Services, the Executive Office on Aging, Papa Ola Lokahi, and credible third-party Medicare resources.

We are not: A government agency. We are not affiliated with Medicare, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Hawaii Department of Human Services, the Hawaii Department of Health, or any other government entity. We are also not a health insurance carrier and do not sell insurance directly.

How we connect Hawaii beneficiaries with help

Throughout the site, we link to two primary resources:

  • MedicareAgents.com — to find a licensed Medicare agent serving your Hawaiian island
  • PlanMatch.com — to compare Medicare plans available at your zip code

For free, unbiased counseling, we always recommend Sage PLUS Hawaii at 1-888-875-9229. Sage PLUS is the state's federally funded SHIP program — they don't sell insurance and there's no fee for their services.

Our editorial approach

Every Medicare cost figure on this site has been verified against the official 2026 CMS announcements. State program details are sourced from the Hawaii Department of Human Services, the Executive Office on Aging, and Papa Ola Lokahi. Where information is unclear or rapidly changing — such as the rolling 2027 D-SNP alignment rule, or post-Maui wildfire SEP extensions — we direct readers to call official sources for current eligibility.

We do not name specific insurance carriers in our editorial content. Plan availability changes annually, and we want our content to remain useful regardless of which carriers serve a given county.

Compliance

HawaiiMedicare.org is a Third-Party Marketing Organization (TPMO) under CMS rules and complies with all applicable Medicare marketing regulations. Our footer disclaimer appears on every page of the site.
